Update: Arthur Henderson Awaits Sentencing after Conviction in Rapes of Three Women in Ross, Hopewell

After representing himself during his trial, the convicted rapist is scheduled to be sentenced in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.

Convicted rapist Arthur Lamont Henderson is scheduled to be sentenced March 26 after a jury  found him guilty of raping three women in Ross and Hopewell townships. Jurors deliberated for less than four hours beforereturning a verdict, ending an unusual trial in which Henderson acted as his own attorney and cross-examined his victims as well as the police officers who arrested him, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. During closing arguments in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court, Henderson claimed he was framed while the prosecution said it had proven its case beyond any doubt. Rape Trial: Woman Testifies to Assault in Ross Apartment

The woman recounts being tied up by her attacker and her fiance gagged in a room across the hall.

One of three women Arthur Henderson is charged with raping in January 2012 testified Wednesday afternoon that she was assaulted in front of her 4-month-old baby, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported . The woman said she had just returned to her townhouse in the Cascade Apartments after walking her dog around 9 a.m. on Jan. 9, 2012. According to the newspaper, she entered a darkened bedroom and discovered her fiancé bound and gagged on the floor. She then noticed a dark figure in the corner of the room. "I started screaming," she said. "I said, 'Please, don't do this.' He said, 'If you say anything, I'm going to go in that room and kill your fiancé.' Ross Police Release Surveillance Photos of Louis Vuitton Handbag Heist

Five people are suspected of a coordinated shoplifting hit at the Ross Park Mall store.

Ross Township police have released photos of the five people suspected of a cooridnated-shoplifting hit on the Louis Vuitton store in the Ross Park Mall Thursday night. Police said the five walked into the store around 8 p.m., and working together, grabbed the pricey handbags off the displays and were gone in about 30 seconds. By the time employees realized what was going on it was too late. "The employees did attempt to confront the actors when they fled the store," said Detective Brian Kohlhepp. "No one was injured and no customers were ever in danger." Kohlhepp said the group left the mall in a car, but there is not a good description of the vehicle. "The group appears to be a mix of male and females all in their 20’s or early 30’s and …

Nearby: Five Shoplifters Hit Louis Vuitton Store, Steal Pricey Handbags

Police said they have leads and are reviewing surveillance video of the brazen Ross Park Mall theft.

Ross Township police are looking for five people suspected of walking into the Louis Vuitton Store in Ross Park Mall about 8 p.m. Thursday and walking out with an undetermined number of handbags. Store officials were conducting an inventory Friday morning to determine the extent of the loss. The designer handbags aren't cheap, with some costing more than $1,000 each. "Based on surveillance video it does appear that these five individuals were working together," said Ross Police Detective Brian Kohlhepp. "The store was open at the time and employees did attempt to confront the actors when they fled the store.  No one was injured and no customers were ever in danger." Update: Trial Delayed for Man Charged in Ross Rapes

Jury selection had been scheduled to begin today for Arthur Lamont Henderson.

A change in defense counsel has delayed the trial of a 38-year-old North Side man charged with raping and robbing two women in Ross, and another in Hopewell, within a four-day period in Ross Township. Arthur Lamont Henderson, who has been in the Allegheny County Jail on a $2.5 million bond since his arrest January 20, had been scheduled to go on trial today. A new trial date is expected to be set today. He has pleaded not guilty. The charges against Henderson stem from two attacks on Ross Township women—one reported Saturday, Jan. 7 at the Woodhawk Club Apartments complex on Johnanna Drive and the other Monday, Jan. 9 at the Cascades Apartment complex off Cemetery Lane. Ross Township police say a mother coerced her 14-year-old daughter to go on a high-end shoplifting spree inside Ross Park Mall Sunday, before police nabbed them on McKnight Road.  Kate Spiker, 38, of Sharpsburg, was seen snatching high-end purses inside Nordstrom, according to police.  Her daughter was outside, behind the wheel of a rented pick-up truck, waiting while her mother made several trips in and out of various shops with the loot.  “They took nearly $5,000 worth of merchandise,” said Ross Twp. Woman in crushed Toyota Camry taken to hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Ross Township police say they will likely cite the driver of a Schwans' food truck involved in a rollover accident at the intersection of Cemetery Lane and Route 19/Perry Highway in Ross Township this morning. Police say the box truck was turning southbound off of the ramp from I-279 when it tipped over and crushed a Toyota Camry, which was in the northbound lane of Perry Highway. Ross Township Police Searching for Suspect in Child Abduction Attempt

A 7-year-old boy told police that a stranger tried to take him from the Goodwill Store on Saturday.

Ross Township Police are searching for a man who on Saturday approached and attempted to kidnap a 7-year-old boy. According to police, officers were called to the Goodwill store in the Ross Towne Center on McKnight Road around 6:30 p.m. Saturday after the boy told his mother a man he didn't know grabbed him by the coat and said, "Let's go." The boy ran away and alerted his mother, who called police, according to a news release. The man had already left the area before officers arrived at the store. Police describe the man as white, in his mid-to-late 30s, about 5-feet-8 inches tall, with a heavy build and a goatee. He was wearing a red cap with a black stripe and a red coat with black stripes. Police Arrest Suspect in Ross Attacks

Arthur L. Henderson, 38, of the North Side, was arrested by police early Thursday morning. Henderson is the suspect in the two sexual attacks on Ross Township women earlier this month.

Arthur L. Henderson, 38, of the North Side, was arrested early Thursday morning by Ross Township Police, with the help of other agencies, including the FBI and the Pittsburgh Police Department.  Henderson was apprehended in the Hill District neighborhood of the city of Pittsburgh, police said.  He is the suspect in the two recent sexual assaults of women outside their apartment complexes.  An arrest warrant was issued for Henderson late afternoon Wednesday by Judge Richard Opiela of Magisterial District Court 05-2-02. The FBI had offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.  It was not immediately clear how police discovered Henderson's whereabouts. News Nearby: Attack in Beaver County Raises Question of Connection to Ross Sex Assaults

Police in Hopewell Township are investigating a sexual attack that also took place Saturday morning that has some similarities to the attacks in Ross. Ross Township police said they cannot confirm that the attacks are related.

Hopewell Township police in Beaver County are investigating a sexual assault reported early morning Saturday, Jan. 7, that they say may be connected to two recent sexual attacks in Ross Township.  Ross Township investigators were made aware of the incident over the weekend and are looking into the similarities, spokesman Sgt.
