Sewickley, Edgeworth and Leetsdale police provided additional patrols Monday at schools in the Quaker Valley School District. It was the first day back to school since Friday's fatal shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Newtown, CT. Sewickley Police Chief James Ersher said school leaders were in touch with his department over the weekend and Monday, with some asking to review safety protocols with police. Ersher said police were also more visible around Sewickley-area schools. Local and state police in Newtown, Conn. are called to an elementary school at about 9:30 this morning after a gunman allegedly opens fire at the school.
Connecticut police said Friday afternoon that 26 people, including 20 children, were killed at an elementary school after a gunman opened fire. Another adult was killed at a second location. The Scene Police in Newtown, CT were called to the Sandy Hook School at about 9:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call. They alerted Connecticut State Police and authorities began an active shooter investigation once they arrived at the school, according to Connecticut State Police spokesman Lt. Paul Vance. Authorities said the gunman was found dead inside the school. He was allegedly armed with four guns and a high-powered assault rifle. Why do we not have one person in each office of the school who has gun training and the use of a gun. These brave individuals tried to stop this gunman with their body. If they had a gun and were able to shoot the gunman, we would have lost not one child and half of the adults. We have plenty of individuals with guns protecting the president and his family.
