QV Football Opens Season with Thrilling Comeback Win

Senior Quarterback Burke Moser accounts for three fourth quarter scores in win.

Quaker Valley Quarterback Burke Moser wears size 15 shoes, but he isn’t expected to use those big feet to score touchdowns.  But in the QV opener at South Park last night, he did just that.  The Quakers overcame a 190-yard rushing performance from Jared Becker when Moser found the end zone with just 30 seconds remaining to give Quaker Valley the win. South Park dominated the first three quarters of the game, and took a 17-0 lead into the final quarter before QV found it’s rhythm offensively and completed the best comeback in the Quakers recent history.  And they did it against a good South Park team that will likely figure in the Century Conference playoff picture.  QV Coach John Tortorea was happy with the performance. “The players took a…

Glad to see the Cornell athletes having a chance to earn a scholarship. They can help QV get to that next level this year. Jackson and Bartolomucci are special players and winners.   more ›

New Coach, New Quarterback, New Start

Head coach John Tortorea and quarterback Burke Moser lead QV to opening win.

New Quaker Valley football coach John Tortorea and first-year starting quarterback Burke Moser didn’t arrive on the local sports scene quietly. In the game that has become known over the years as the battle for the Sewickley Bridge, Moser threw a six-yard touchdown pass to fullback Aaron Cunningham with 5:41 remaining in the game to tie it at 26-26. Quaker Valley kicker Nelson Westwood broke the tie and provided the winning margin by placing his pressure-packed attempt through the uprights. Tortorea referred to …

Quaker Valley Edges Out Cornell 27-26

The varsity boys team is victorious in a nail-biter season opener.

It was a muggy night in Frank Letteri Stadium as Quaker Valley played its season opener against the Cornell Raiders.  There were turnovers, blocked punts, stripped balls and fumbles on both sides, but new head coach John Tortorea logged his first win when the Quakers emerged the victors in a hard-fought 27-26 battle.  The end of the first quarter saw the Quakers behind 12-0, but QB Burke Moser was able to connect with Jordan Vescio and Joe Peduto in the second quarter to rally to a  20-12 lead at the half.  A Raider touchdown in the third quarter narrowed that gap to 20-18, and another Raider touchdown and two point conversion six minutes into the fourth quarter saw Cornell pull ahead 26-20.  A touchdown by freshman Aaron Cunningham tied …
