Police: Intoxicated Bellevue Man Breaks into Sewickley Heights Home

The man was discovered sitting on a downstairs toilet and taken into custody.

A Bellevue man is accused of trespassing into a Sewickley Heights home and using the bathroom, all while he was reportedly intoxicated.  Andrew Fleming, 21, of Division Avenue, is now facing charges of criminal trespass, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct, possession of a small amount of marijuana, and possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia. According to a criminal complaint, Sewickley Heights police responded at 2:30 a.m. Sunday to the 800 block of Blackburn Road for a report of an intruder somewhere in the house. Police said the homeowner’s daughter saw an unknown man in the study and spoke to him before he disappeared, leaving behind a backpack and a single flip flop. Sewickley, Sewickley Heights Police to Participate in National Drug Take-Back Day

Residents can drop off old and unused prescription medications at the Sewickley and Sewickley Heights police stations.

Two local police departments will serve as collection sites for unwanted drugs. The Sewickley and Sewickley Heights police departments will take part Saturday, April 27 in the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. The event, sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents can drop off unused and old prescriptions at either 601 Thorn St. in Sewickley or 1901 Glen Mitchell Road in Sewickley Heights.  Sewickley Police Chief James Ersher said the event allows for medications to be properly disposed of on behalf of residents. “This way people don’t leave their medications in their homes where there’s a chance for abuse,” Ersher said. Woman Waives Charges in Sewickley Heights Necklace Theft

A Coraopolis woman accused of stealing a $20,000 necklace from a Sewickley Heights home waived her right Tuesday to a preliminary hearing in Leetsdale District Court. Jessica Cox, 28, of Ridge Avenue, will stand trial on felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. Sewickley Heights police reported that Cox pawned a necklace worth $20,000 on Nov. 17 at Banner Coin Exchange in Pittsburgh in exchange for $225. Police said Cox took the gold necklace with diamonds and charms from a Scaife Road home where she had been recently hired as the cleaning lady. Cox's bail was lowered Tuesday from $25,000 to a nonmonetary bond. Her public defender, Keith Donnelly said she will remain incarcerated because she has been …

Sewickley Heights Police Charge Woman With Stealing $20,000 Necklace

A Coraopolis woman is facing felony theft charges after police said she stole a $20,000 necklace from a Sewickley Heights home where she worked. Jessica Cox, 28, of Ridge Avenue, is charged with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. Sewickley Heights police were called Nov. 17 to a residence in the 400 block of Scaife Road where the homeowner reported she was missing a necklace valued at $20,000 that she had stored in a purse. Police said the owner had been diligent about monitoring the necklace, described as a gold Aaron Basha necklace with diamonds and charms, because she recently hired a new cleaning lady whom she was aware had a troubled past. Sewickley Hills Man Charged with Home Burglaries

A Sewickley Hills man is facing theft-related charges accused of stealing from his next door neighbor’s home and his landlord in Sewickley Heights. David Lewandowski, 33, of Hilltop Lane, was arraigned Wednesday and placed in Allegheny County Jail on $10,000 straight bond, $5,000 for each offense. Sewickley Heights police charged Lewandowski with burglary, criminal trespass,  theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.  Ohio Township police, which patrols Sewickley Hills, charged him with two counts burglary and criminal trespass, and one count each of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property. 'Foxcatcher' Film Shoot in Sewickley Heights to Close Blackburn Road

Blackburn Road will experience temporary and brief closures Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to accommodate the film starring Channing Tatum.

Another big movie shoot is coming to the Sewickley Valley. “Foxcatcher,”  a Hollywood film starring Channing Tatum, Steve Carell and Mark Ruffalo will begin shooting Monday, Oct. 15 in the Sewickley area, which means local road closings to accommodate the movie shoot. In Sewickley Heights, Blackburn Road will have temporary and brief road closures from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Oct. 15; and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 and Thursday, Oct. 18. Sewickley Heights police officers will be directing traffic during these hours. Woodland Road in Edgeworth and a small portion in Sewickley borough will also experience closures for filming, Sewickley police said. Sewickley Heights Police Search for Naked Woman

A naked woman seen strolling through a Sewickley Heights cemetery over the weekend was enough cause for someone to pick up the phone and dial 911. Sewickley Heights police responded shortly after 4:15 p.m. Saturday to the St. James Cemetery after receiving a report through Allegheny County emergency dispatchers of a naked woman walking around. Sewickley Heights Police Chief Herb Ford said the only description police received was that the woman was elderly. She also proved to be elusive. Sewickley Heights Dispatcher Sues Coraopolis, Moon for Wrongful Arrest

The Moon resident's lawsuit claims he was falsely arrested for selling drugs in Coraopolis.

A Sewickley Heights police dispatcher has filed a lawsuit in federal court claiming he was falsely arrested and jailed by Coraopolis police on drug charges.  Moon resident Jason Cercone, 29, names Coraopolis police, its Chief Alan DeRusso and Officer Albert Marxs; Moon police and its Detective Brian Buydasz; as well as Moon Township and Coraopolis Borough in the lawsuit filed on Thursday.  Cercone alleges that police confused him with another man when they arrested him for selling drugs on April 10. The charges were withdrawn days after his arrest.  In the suit, Cercone said he was approached by Chief DeRusso and Officer Marx in the parking lot of the Sewickley Heights police station, where he has worked as a dispatcher for six years.  …

Update: Autopsy Reveals Cause of Death for Economy Man

Craig Wood, 54, died Thursday after collapsing in Sewickley Heights Borough Park.

An autopsy performed Friday showed an Economy Borough man died of natural causes, a spokeswoman at the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office said.  Craig Wood, 54, of Economy, was found unresponsive Thursday morning in Sewickley Heights Borough Park. Sewickley Heights Police Chief Herb Ford said a group of young cross-country runners practicing on the borough trails came upon Wood, who was alone.  No one witnessed what happened and police didn't believe Wood had been exercising because he was wearing sandals. Local Police to Purchase Bulletproof Vests with Help from Federal Grant

Leetsdale, Sewickley Heights and Ohio Township police receive grant money through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bulletproof Vest Partnership program.

Leetsdale, Sewickley Heights and Ohio Township police are among 315 police jurisdictions in the state that received grants through the U.S. Department of Justice’s 2011 Bulletproof Vest Partnership program, U.S. Rep Jason Altmire, D-McCandless, announced Wednesday. The federal grants reimburse the departments for a portion of the cost to help local law enforcement purchase bulletproof vests. Sewickley Heights Police Chief Herb Ford said the grant money would provide the department with a 50-percent match on the cost of three vests. Sewickley Heights was granted $1,125 in funds.
