UPDATE: Sewickley Valley Could See More Thunderstorms, Lower Temperatures

The weather is expected to go from feeling like late spring to late fall by Friday.

The National Weather Service in Moon Township says another round of showers and thunderstorms is expected through Friday morning in the region. About 2 to 3 inches of rain has fallen across the Allegheny River Basin since Wednesday afternoon and the weather service expects an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain to fall again overnight into early Friday. A flood advisory has been issued through Friday evening for the Ohio River at Pittsburgh. The rain could lead to rising streams and potential flooding in low lying areas, the weather service said. National Weather Service Issues Another Flood Warning

More storms move through the area on Saturday.

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning at 4:10 p.m. Saturday as yet more thunderstorms rolled through the area. The warning is in effect until 7:15 p.m. for Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Westmoreland counties. A flood warning means flooding is imminent or has been reported. "Stream rises will be slow and flash flooding is not expected," according to the National Weather Service website. At 4:08 pm. the weather service reported up to an inch of rain had fallen in the previous hour across the warning areas. "These same areas received over three inches of rain in the past 24 hours. Additional rainfall is expected over the next several hours," the National Weather Service stated. "Road flooding can be expected in urban areas. …

More Thunderstorms Moving Through Area

The National Weather Service issues a special weather statement for Allegheny, Beaver and Butler counties.

As locals continue cleaning up from Thursdays storms, the area is bracing for more rain. The National Weather Service at 3:30 p.m. Friday issued a special weather statement for Allegheny, Butler and Beaver counties. Thunderstorms with heavy rain will be moving through the area, according to the forecast. Dangerous lightning and wind gusts of up to 40 mph will accompany some of these storms. Forecasters also warn rain water could pond on roads and in low-lying area. Among the areas expected to be affected by the storms are Cranberry, Zelienople, Evans City, Wexford, Gibsonia and Mars. Area storm damage from Thursday included a tree down on Grove Street Extension in Sewickley and a cracked tree across from Way Park in Edgeworth. Edgeworth …

Thunderstorms Moving Into Allegheny, Butler Counties

Special Weather Statement Issued at 1:11 p.m. Tuesday.

Strong thunderstorms will affect parts of Allegheny County—including Wexford, Sewickley, Moon, Franklin Park, Perrysville and Pittsburgh's North Side—as well as Cranberry Township in Butler County this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. It issued a Special Weather Statement at 1:11 p.m. warning of the storms in which wind gusts up to 50 mph and dime-size hail are possible, the service said. "Heavy rain will pond water on roads and quickly fill ditches and small streams," The National Weather Service website states. Update: Power Restored to Most Duquesne Light Customers

Line workers, tree crews and other support personnel were out in full force cleaning up the damage from the storms, the company indicated in a release.

Approximately 18,000 Duquesne Light Co. customers were experiencing power outages Wednesday afternoon after strong storms pushed through the region. Now approximately 250 customers remain out of service as of 6 a.m. Thursday.  Joey Vallarian, Duquesne Light spokesman, said all customers are expected to be restored by late afternoon Thursday. The customers without power were scattered throughout the service territory. Line workers, tree crews and other support personnel were out in full force cleaning up damage after the worst of the storms swept through, he said. Duquesne Light reminds customers that downed wires are a safety hazard and should be avoided.  They pose the danger of electrical shock and injury. Residents are advised to not …

Second Round of Storms Headed this Way

The storm is expected to affect the Sewickley area, according to a special statement from the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service issued a special statement Tuesday evening for the Sewickley area of another round of thunderstorms headed this way. At 6:33 p.m., a strong thunderstorm was located in Harshaville, Beaver County, moving east at about 20 mph.  Locations that could be impacted are Sewickley, Moon Township, Franklin Park, Economy, Carnegie, McKees Rocks and the North Side and South Side of Pittsburgh, according to the weather service. The strong thunderstorm is expected to affect central Allegheny County, southern Beaver County and northwestern Washington County, according to the weather service.  Wind gusts could reach up to 40 mph and possible hail up to a dime size with this storm, the weather service states. The storm is also …

Update: Severe Thunderstorm Blows Through the Region

Reports include storm damage on Little Sewickley Creek Road and a transformer that exploded in the Quaker Village Shopping Center.

Thunder crashed and rain poured down Tuesday afternoon, causing downed trees and flooded roadways in the region. A transformer exploded in the Quaker Village Shopping Center shortly after 2 p.m., near the Giant Eagle GetGo station, according to emergency officials. Workers from Duquesne Light Co. are working on the repairs.  Joey Vallarian, Duquesne Light spokesman, said about 12,000 customers were without power as of 4 p.m.  Storm damage and debris are reported on Little Sewickley Creek Road. District officials sent out a message to parents that buses were canceled this afternoon for the road due to the storm damage and affected students were being held at the school to be picked up by their parents.  Flooded roads and downed wires …

Severe Thunderstorms Possible This Afternoon and Tonight

National Weather Service issues a hazardous weather outlook.

Severe thunderstorms with strong winds and large hail are possible late this afternoon and early tonight, according to the National Weather Service. A hazardous weather outlook for southwest Pennsylvania was updated about 11 a.m. to forecast a slight risk of severe thunderstorms, according to the weather service.  “The primary threat will be damaging winds and large hail,” the weather service noted. “However, tornado development cannot be ruled out.” Wind gusts of more than 35 mph will be common Monday night, the weather service added.  Rainfall amounts of up to an inch are possible, the National Weather Service said. “Rainfall in excess of two inches could lead to small-stream flooding.”
