Sewickley Walk Attracts Chocolate Lovers for Valentine's Day: PHOTOS

Sewickley Chocolate Walk serves up a variety of chocolate delights, from chocolate goat cheese to chocolate wine.

With maps in hand, participants of the inaugural Sewickley Chocolate Walk walked through February snow to visit a number of businesses serving delectable treats. The Chocolate Walk included a number of businesses serving up samples of everything from a chocolate goat cheese spread to chocolate wine. Jennifer Markus of Village Green Partners, estimated at least 100 people attended Wednesday's walk, including 78 people who checked-in at Wolcott Park with tickets. The final head count was 125 participants, according to Alex DeLoia of Village Green, organizer of the event, who felt the turnout was great for the first walk and on what turned out to be a snowy evening. "We've received nothing but positive and constructive comments from attendees…

What fun this was, even in the snow. My family really enjoyed it — the walk in the flurries, popping in and out of the businesses and, oh, that chocolate gelato!   more ›

More Than 80 Years Old, Dozens of Letters Tell A Family Love Story

Patch Local Editor AmyJo Brown recently found two years' worth of dozens of love letters that her great-grandfather wrote to her great-grandmother in 1928 and 1929. She said tht every letter makes her smile, laugh and—often—gasp at the PG-13 content.

Early last year, my great-aunt pulled out a box of love letters that my great-grandfather wrote to my great-grandmother—dozens of them, written between March 1928 and late summer 1929.  My great-grandmother, Dorothy, was 19 years old. My great-grandfather, Charles, was 18. He left Dorothy, Pittsburgh and his "gang" of good friends in Etna to travel and work on a plantation in Mississippi—the Macon Brooksville Farm. The letters are an incredible treasure. I've been working on putting together my family history for about two years. At first, I hoped the letters would give me some clues about Charles' parents—both died very young, his mother in 1913 and his father in 1918. Charles' stepmom (who also was his aunt) and her second husband raised…

That's so romantic. I think letter writing is a lost art, especially with so much technology these days. Imagine if AmyJo's great grandparents had communicated via Skype. That history would be lost. I also like that you saved the love letter on the napkin. That's quite sweet.   more ›

Cook for Your Lady this Valentine's Day

Let your special someone sit back, relax and enjoy some delicious food this Valentine's Day.

Women love a man who can cook! Let's face it, if you're married or dating someone, chances are your lady is the one doing the cooking. If you're the cook, we're jealous! There's something romantic about when a man makes us a home-cooked meal. When my boyfriend cooks for me, my instinct is to try to help out. When he tells me to sit down and relax, it makes me feel special. So guys, instead of going out to a crowded restaurant, make Valentine's Day a special evening at home. Dress up and have music playing in the background! As far as a meal, I'd suggested personalizing it a little bit. Do you know what her favorite food is? Did you enjoy a special meal one time that you could recreate? Three years ago, my boyfriend and I went to San …
