Leetsdale Plans Crackdown on Snowy, Icy Sidewalks

Leetsdale Council reminds residents that snow-removal violators can face a range of penalties including jail time under the borough code.

North Fayette Daycare Owned by Smallis Posed 'Serious Danger'

A Moon Township woman and former daycare owner was charged this month with owning child pornography. In 2010, the Department of Public Welfare shuttered her childcare service amid reports of child neglect and violation of state safety regulations.

No running water was available, and electrical wires hung from the ceiling of the Montour Church Road building.  To use a restroom, older children passed by shards of metal and broken toys, walking up splintered, loose steps to reach a toilet on an upper floor, according to Department of Public Welfare documents. The owner of the facility, Pamela Smallis, of Moon Township, was ordered to shut down the daycare in Sept. 2010 after department inspectors said …

Former Leetsdale Manager Agrees to Reimburse the Borough

The Pennsylvania Ethics Commission finds that Paul Scimio violated the state Ethics Act while serving on council.

Leetsdale’s former borough manager and councilman violated the state Ethics Act and must now reimburse the municipality $1,078.03, the Pennsylvania Ethics Commission announced Tuesday in a final ruling. According to the commission report, Paul Scimio abused his authority as a Leetsdale councilman when he used a borough-issued credit card to charge meals for himself and other borough employees. The expenses were considered "personal in nature under the guise of borough business," commission findings said.  The commission reports that around June 2008, the borough obtained a Citizen Bank credit line and provided credit cards to Scimio and other council members for convenience related to purchasing needed items, for travel expenses and other …
