The school board approved a motion to submit a request to WPIAL and PIAA to include Cornell School District on the team for the 2012 season.
Two schools are better than one. This may be the new motto of the Quaker Valley High School football team if the WPIAL and PIAA approve the establishment of a cooperative football program with the nearby Cornell School District. The request to submit this proposal to the aforementioned organizations was approved by the school board Tuesday night. It would come into effect during the 2012 season. The agreement would allow Cornell students to play with the Quaker Valley team. Without the agreement, the Cornell District would not be able to have a football team in the upcoming year. Though they would be a part of the team, all of their expenses would be billed directly to the Cornell District, such as transportation and injury care from …

Sewickley Academy will play the winner of Saturday’s matchup between State College and Villa Maria in the opening round of the state tournament.
Sewickley Academy senior midfielder Olivia Ahearn scored six goals including three in an 80-second burst of speed and sheer determination, but the second-half rally she inspired came up one goal short. As a result, Sewickley Academy will enter the PIAA Girls Lacrosse Championships as the WPIAL’s Division I runner-up following a gutsy 12-11 loss to Seneca Valley Thursday night at North Hills High School’s Martorelli Stadium. “We played with a lot of heart and a lot of passion, and we’re not letting it end this way,” Sewickley Academy coach Cheryl Ann Lassen said after presenting her team with the WPIAL Silver Medals. “It was wonderful to see Olivia step up and take control,” the coach said. “She’s one of an amazing group of six seniors.” …

The team remains in control of their playoff hopes with three upcoming section games.
Quaker Valley girls basketball coach Jim Dudas spoke in raspy tones following a 65-48 Section 6-AA road loss to Avonworth Thursday night. Dudas almost lost his voice while directing his team’s defensive and offensive strategy from the sidelines while the Quakers took their shot against one of the top teams in the WPIAL. “I was extremely pleased with the way our girls competed,” Dudas said. “They really got after it. “ Avonworth just has the better team right now,” he said. “But we’ll get better.” The Quakers moved to fourth place in section play at 6-3 and 10-6 overall. Don’t count the Quakers out. They remained in control of their playoff hopes with three upcoming section games against South Side Beaver on Thursday, Our Lady of Sacred …

The varsity boys basketball team finished strong in the first half.
One quarter usually doesn't decide the outcome of a WPIAL basketball game. Quaker Valley outscored Northgate 22-6 in the second quarter, and while the game was far from over, the Quakers rode the wave of that margin for a 62-52 Section 6-AA victory Tuesday night at the Northgate gym. Quaker Valley won its fifth straight game and moved to 8-1 overall, and held onto second place in the section race with a 2-1 record. Limiting teams to low numbers in one quarter is nothing new for Quaker Valley, which has allowed an average of 43.3 points per game against its first nine opponents. Northgate (3-6, 1-2) broke on top 7-0 quickly, and built a 17-13 lead by the end of the first quarter. Quaker Valley finished the first half on a 35-16 run. Senior …
