Duquesne Light Warns Sewickley Residents of Potential Scam

Duquesne Light says the elderly are often the target.

Duquesne Light officials are warning local police departments to be aware of a potential scam targeting its customers. A few customers have reported receiving calls stating that if payment isn’t made immediately, their service will be terminated the same day. The callers are also directing customers to purchase “pre-paid” type credit cards to pay off the alleged amount.  Duquesne Light does not call customers on the day of a scheduled termination for non-payment, nor does it ask customers to purchase these pre-paid type payment cards.  If customers receive one of these calls, the company asks that they hang up and call Duquesne Light at 412-393-7100, as well as alerting their local police department. Leetsdale Plans Crackdown on Snowy, Icy Sidewalks

The woman filed a police report, officials said.  “We have people out there who are 80 and 85 years old trying to make their way down to Giant Eagle...or other stores down there," Council President Joseph McGurk said. "If these people fall they are so fragile that somebody could die. I think we all need to take this serious.”  McGurk said the borough gave out 30 snow-removal warnings on Jan. 4 to residents following the most recent snowfall. …

Sewickley also has an ordinance requiring sidewalks to be clean and free of snow within 24 hours of a snowfall. I agree with Concerned American. If you can't clear your snow, there are kids out there who would love to earn a few extra bucks.   more ›
