A cold front is bringing strong wind gusts to the Sewickley area.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the region, including Allegheny, Beaver and Butler counties. The wind advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. today, with gusts of up to 45 mph predicted. The strongest winds are expected around dawn, continuing until late morning, according to the weather service. Temperatures are expected to drop today as well. Strong winds can cause downed tree limbs and power lines, so drivers should use caution particularly over bridges and overpasses, the weather service said. National Weather Service issues wind advisory.
You probably noticed this already, but it's windy out there. In fact, it is so windy the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory that is in effect until 3 a.m. Tuesday for western Pennsylvania and surrounding areas. How windy is it? The forecast calls for winds from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. The strongest winds are expected through 7 p.m., then gradually will diminish through the evening. Scattered tree and power line damage can be expected, the weather service said on its website. Minor property damage is possible with the highest gusts. For the second day in a row, the academy will start classes later than usual.
Sewickley Academy has issued a two-hour delay for Wednesday due to the extremely cold temperatures. Quaker Valley School District also has announced a two-hour delay for Wednesday for all buildings. Local schools were also on a two-hour delay Tuesday due to the frigid weather. A wind-chill advisory issued by the National Weather Service remains in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday. Wind advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
