Quaker Valley High School Makes Top 10 List for Highest SAT Scores

See the other area schools that made the list.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education released a list of high schools' average SAT scores for 2012 and Quaker Valley High School made the top 10. Out of 160 Quaker Valley High School students tested, the average verbal score was 532, the average math score was 535 and the average writing score was 523. Upper St. Clair High School topped the list with 343 students tested and an average verbal score of 568. The average math score was 583 and the average writing score was 576. Coming in right behind Upper St. Clair is North Allegheny High School. Whiz Kids: Dobbins, Fleming, Jensen and Thornhill

The Quaker Valley Middle School students took top honors in the first round of writing competitions.

  Whiz Kids: Maggie Dobbins, Beth Fleming, Dana Jensen and Taylor Thornhill Year: Seventh and eighth grades School: Quaker Valley Middle School Key to Greatness:  This year, students in the seventh- and eighth-grade language arts classes at Quaker Valley Middle School are competing in a series of in-school writing competitions. The first round was Nov. 3 with a challenge requiring each student to write an informative essay. The assignment: "Write an essay about an unforgettable teacher, relative or friend. Explain what qualities make this person unforgettable."  Student responses listed classmates to kindergarten teachers.
