Fans are invited to the Annihilate the Islanders rally in downtown Pittsburgh.
Allegheny County officials are planning an Annihilate the Islanders rally before the Pittsburgh Penguins' first playoff game Wednesday, May 1. The rally begins at noon in the Allegheny Courthouse courtyard and includes giveaways from the Penguins and Turner's Dairy and an appearance from Iceburgh. Val Porter from WDVE will host the event and the Kardasz Brothers will perform live music. The best-of-seven playoff series against the New York Islanders begins at 7:30 p.m. at Consol Energy Center. Quaker Valley High School hockey team will compete Saturday in the PIHL Class A Penguins Cup Championship Series finals. The state championship game against Mars will begin at 1 p.m. in Consol Energy Center. The Quakers advanced after defeating Kittanning, 7-1, in Monday's home championship series matchup at RMU's Island Sports Center on Neville Island. The No. 1 seed team is going for its second state championship. The cowbells will be ringing.

Members of Occupy Pittsburgh have announced that a rally will take place at 10:30 a.m. outside the Console Energy Center on Thursday, Oct. 27, when former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney hosts the Republican Committee of Allegheny County's (RCAC) luncheon fundraiser. Occupy Pittsburgh said in a statement that "Romney has called the non-violent Occupy Movement, 'dangerous class warfare,' " and referred to Romney as a member of the 1 percent controlling much of America’s wealth.
