The 20-cents fuelperks! promotion runs through May 29.
For a limited time, Giant Eagle customers who spend $50 will receive double fuel perks at GetGo fuel and convenience store locations. Starting Thursday, May 16, customers can earn a 20-cents off per gallon for every $50 spent using a Giant Eagle Advantage Card inside any of its stores in the Pittsburgh market, including Leetsdale. The incentive runs through Wednesday, May 29. Giant Eagle estimates the incentive will result in about 2 million gallons of free fuel. The promotion comes just in time for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, when millions are expected to travel the nation’s highways. The bonus free fuel reward increases the traditional 10-cents per gallon fuelperks! discount earned for purchasing qualifying items such as groceries …

Announcing an end to foodperks!, Giant Eagle is offering a new incentive to fuelperks! while fighting a lawsuit over the program.
Giant Eagle might be ending foodperks!, but it's also adding extra incentive to use its fuelperks! program. The company has announced the last day to earn foodperks! will be Feb. 13, but Giant Eagle is also rolling out a new 3-cent program that gives customers extra incentive to choose GetGo over other gas stations. The program started Feb. 4. "The new GetGo 3-cent program is simple," said Rob Borella, Senior Director of Corporate Communications. "Every time a customer scans his or her Giant Eagle Advantage Card while fueling at GetGo and isn’t redeeming fuelperks!, he or she will receive 3-cents off per gallon." Meanwhile, a company that helped Giant Eagle initiate its Fuelperks program is now suing the grocer, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette…

The last day to earn the perks will be Feb. 13.
Giant Eagle's popular foodperks! program will end on May 31, but the last day to earn the perks will be much sooner—Feb. 13. The supermarket/gas station chain's fuelperks! program, however, will continue. In fact, starting on Thursday, it will be supplemented by a 3-cent discount on gasoline for Advantage Card holders on the occasions when they don't use fuelperks! Giant Eagle CEO Laura Karet said that the foodperks! program had become "a little too complex." The foodperks! program is being discontinued “based on feedback from customers,” Karet wrote in a letter sent to customers receiving the highest level of savings with foodperks! Giant Eagle began to issue letters to those customers along special offers like $10 off Rewards Cards in …

Experts explain why prices in Ohio are up to 50 cents a gallon cheaper than Western Pennsylvania. See which Sewickley area stations are lowest.
If you live in Cleveland, there's a good chance you could fill up your tank for about $3 a gallon, and that's more than 40 cents a gallon cheaper than in the Sewickley area, according to the AAA. Drivers in five states (Wyo., Utah, Colo., Okla. and Minn.) currently pay less than $3 per gallon at the pump, while only drivers in Hawaii pay more than $4 per gallon, the AAA said. Jeff Lenard, spokesman for the National Association of Convenience Stores, told the Post Gazette that said prices vary for several reasons. One is a different state gas tax rate, which favor Ohio at $46.4 cents a gallon, or 4.3 cents below Pennsylvania's 50.7 cents. Another reason, Lenard said, is because different pipelines and gasoline refineries and wholesalers …

Gas prices increase a nickel in Western Pennsylvania.
Gasoline prices have increased slightly in Western Pennsylvania following weeks of declines. The current average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline is $3.459, up five cents per gallon from a week ago, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge. After approaching the $100-per-barrel threshold to end last week, crude oil prices declined slightly in Monday’s trading. Crude oil prices increased last week on tightening U.S. inventories, hopes that euro zone leaders were moving to contain that region’s debt crisis, and weakness in the U.S. dollar. The Department of Energy's weekly report showed domestic crude stocks 1.6 million barrels lower than the week prior, putting upward pressure on prices. Economic strength in Europe put downward …

Patch brings you area gasoline prices to compare.
Gasoline prices dropped even lower this week in Western Pennsylvania, by about 1.7 cents a gallon. Could it be that winter is near? According to AAA’s Fuel Gauge, it's more about crude oil prices. Prices for crude oil dropped lower Monday, as the U.S. dollar strengthened compared to currencies abroad. Crude oil prices have fluctuated the past few weeks and increased in much of October, but the national average price at the pump has remained relatively flat — increasing by only 3.5 cents per gallon during the same period, AAA reported Th average price for a gallon of regular unleaded in this area is $3.463. Local prices remained unchanged from a week ago — except BP, where super and premium gas dropped one cent. Local prices to compare:

The least expensive prices — by a penny — can be found at BP. The back story: According to AAA Fuel Gauge, crude oil traded higher Monday, building on momentum from Friday, as stock indices surged on positive economic news and the U.S. dollar weakened, according to AAA. Oil prices and the U.S. dollar have seen a close inverse relationship for much of this year — when…
