For the Quakers, Friday night started as a game about pride and ended with an unlikely scenario that could land Quaker Valley in the playoffs for the first time since 1999. After last year’s 76-26 Steel Valley blowout, which included an on-field fight, Quaker Valley circled this game on the schedule. “For us, this game was personal. It’s not a secret that these two teams don’t like each other,” said Burke Moser, Quaker Valley's quarterback . Quaker Valley had to contend with one of the leading rushers in the WPIAL in Dontez Williams. Williams opened the scoring by capping a 60-yard drive on Steel Valley’s first possession with an 11-yard touchdown run and successful two-point conversion. Quaker Valley didn’t back down and answered with a…

In a defensive struggle the Quakers win by allowing only two Gladiator touchdowns.
The South Allegheny banner read "Glads Eat Quakers for Breakfast." That was not the case on a rainy Friday night in Chuck Knox Stadium as the Quakers defeated the Gladiators in a hard-fought game. It was a well-matched contest, with both teams coming in with an overall 1-3 conference record and 0-2 in the section. Final score: 16-13. For a story on Friday's game, click here. The wind whipped and the rain fell, but when the fog cleared Quaker Valley walked away with their second victory of the season. After a winless season in 2009 and a one-win season in 2010, the Quakers this year may be onto something. The Quaker's defense kept the South Allegheny Gladiators out of the end zone four times with goal line stands and turnovers. The Quakers got off to a quick start when quarterback Burke Moser connected with Jordan Vescio on a 73-yard catch and run that put the Quakers up 7-0 on the third play from scrimmage. Vescio got loose in the secondary on third and 14 when Moser rolled right and threw on the run, hitting him in stride. Vescio did the rest. Moser wasn't surprised it worked. "We put that package in this …

It was a rough night for the Quakers as they played the visiting Seton-LaSalle Rebels at Chuck Knox Stadium. The Rebels were a model of execution both offensively and defensively. Kevin Hart, whose father was a standout at Mount Lebanon, was the target of many well aimed Brumbaugh salvos. S-L quarterback Luke Brumbaugh and receiver Kevin Hart worked their magic on Quaker Valley relentlessly the entire first half. Quaker Valley was plagued by three and outs as they came up against a powerful La-Salle defense. The Quaker defense fought desperately to contain Hart. Nonetheless when the first half came to a close, Hart had already scored all of the games five touchdowns. By the end of the first quarter, the black and gold were down 28-0…

"It was kind of a mismatch," is how one fan described tonight's game at James Swartz Field. The Quakers were only down 6-0 at the end of the first quarter after Freeport's Damon Smith put the Yellowjackets on the board. By the end of the half, the score was 19-0. A couple of punt returns and an interception by Freedom slowed any momentum the Quakers could muster. Quarterback Burke Moser was able to connect, but the Freedom defense literally swarmed his receivers.
