On the Blog Post Marriage, what is it?
MSgt. John DeLallo

ReplyAJ-In response to your question, marriage is a promise. Its a lifetime proposition filled with tears, sometimes of joy, sometimes of anger, sometimes of sadness. Marriage is love, marriage is fidelity, marriage is a bond that can't adequately be described in words. Fruitful marriages may, or may not, include children, and even better, grandchildren.
So far as DOMA, marriages that are far afield from the traditional joining of a man and a woman until death does them part, for better or for worse, in health and in ill health, in good times and in bad, who cares?
I think what is at issue here is not so much the love between same sex partners. That love is obvious, or why would they ask to be wedded? My only objection is that I would not like to see so much as one penny of my tax dollars used to support unconventional marriage. At the end of the day, there may be some social cost, and an argument can be made for damage to the social fabric. Frankly, if someone wishes to marry their pet turtle, go for it. Don't ask me to accept the tax burden that your turtle might impose upon me.

Keep up the good work. I'm sure that some of your constituents, especially in Cambria County, are intensely displeased with the concept of a balanced budget. Balanced budgets hurt worst where communities relied on the Federal tax dollar as a principal source of economic sustenance. Balanced budgets also force a free market economy, as the pork has shriveled up and blown away. With hard work, and the diligence that should have been in place for decades, those towns will recover. You need only to drive over the ridge line to Blair County and Altoona to see what happens when you're not reliant on Big Government. -

ReplyForgot to mention that Folino spent a week in the County Jail, as he was unable to post bond. http://ujsportal.pacourts.us/DocketSheets/MDJReport.aspx?docketNumber=MJ-05220-CR-0000227-2012 His arrest and incarceration are a matter of public record.

ReplyWhat ever happened to truth and personal responsibility. In the meantime, Folino's arrest is a matter of record, and he's ever asked if he's been arrested on a felony charge, regardless that he wasn't even there, his life is ruined. I don't generally ascribe to filing frivilous lawsuits, but Folino has no way to know how badly he's been damaged. In this case, a civil suit is certainly in order.

Interesting that you noted the military suffers first. I agree. I'm going to follow this post to see the finger pointing. I'm thinking this ought to generate at least some commentary. -

ReplyWhile it would appear to be a PITA to the owners of old electronics, this is good law. Most folks have no idea of what is inside the plastic case that houses an old TV. Lead, mercury, silver, gold, cadmium (supposed to be illegal to use). Gold and silver recovery are not a Do it Yourself project. Leave this to the professionals.

ReplyI'm hopeful that the high school students who are running this have been carefully schooled in the dangers of lead, mercury, and other components that are potentially dangerous. Its good to see that a professional company is apparently supervising the activity. There are many nasty metals and compounds in anything with a CRT. Our company used to build similar components, and the HAZMAT procedures in place exceeded OSHA. For example, while illegal, cadmium can be present in electronic devices. As it degrades, or "rusts", cadmium oxide forms. Its also called cadmium bloom. You are pretty much married to kidney disease and lung cancer if you inhale it, or ingest it. Let's not allow a sense of community service to over ride a well placed fear of toxins.

ReplyPerhaps one of my favorite scenes from a movie, "Lonesome Dove", when the character of Newt is being beaten by a crusty old cavalry Scout (Dixon), and Woodrow, his father, protector, and advisor (albeit Newt does not carry the father's name) gallops into the fray, and nearly beats the man accosting his son to a pulp. Augustus McCrae finally pulls Woodrow from the beaten man. He, Woodrow, turns to the crowd and apologizes for his actions and says "I hate rude behavior in a man; I won't tolerate it." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snxME3CDtvI Perhaps the Wild West wasn't quite so wild after all. I'm not suggesting beating the life out of every ignorant and rude person, but speaking out against it firmly is the mark of a true gentleman.

Chris--you are correct with one very notable exception. Open Carry in a city of the First Class requires a License to Carry Firearms. Pennsylvania has one such city, Philadelphia. If you open carry in Philadelphia, you ARE going to get rousted and hassled. See Fiorino v City of Philadelphia and several YouTube clips on the subject.

Rachel:
I suppose, then, that you'll shortly have your gas lines removed, and go all electric. Oops, the big push is less coal and more natural gas to fire steam turbines at electric generation plans. Perhaps you'll see fit to stop driving your car, as many of the "big oil" companies see natural gas as a revenue source. Please be careful when driving your Amish buggy back and forth to shopping, entertainment, and so on. At least you'll have a steady supply of fertilizer to supplement the b.s. from the tree huggers like Sierra club. Hydraulic fracturing presents two big problems. It tears up the roadways, and impact fees are charged to repair them, and waste water from fracking is indeed in need of careful handling. That issue has been addressed, by DER and other Federal and State agencies.
Please be sure to add at least a few mills onto your school property tax as you convince your community to ban gas production.
