Leet Street Bridge Closes Indefinitely

The Leet Street Bridge was closed indefinitely on Wednesday due to structural problems.

According to Allegheny County officials, the decision to close the old railroad bridge in Leetsdale, also known as the Oliver Bridge, came following a routine inspection.

The truss bridge connects Beaver and Washington streets and carries traffic over Route 65 and Norfolk Southern railroad tracks.

A 10-ton weight limit on the bridge was reduced as its condition deteriorated over the years.  A Pennsylvania Department of Transportation inspection a year ago found the more than 100-year-old span in need of repairs and the bridge was limited to car traffic only.
