5 Things to Know This Week: Tuskegee Airmen Exhibit, Gallery Walk, Autumn Festival

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001

Allegheny County is hosting a flag retirement and remembrance ceremony in honor of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The free event takes place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at North Park Flag Retirement Plaza.

Enjoy patriotic and moving songs honor of those who lost their on September 11, 2001, as well as the latest on the country music charts with emerging star Kevin Dale who has been lighting up rooms in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and New Jersey. From noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday the Courtyard Concert Series with Kevin Dale takes place in the Allegheny County Courthouse Courtyard.

2. Tuskegee Airmen Memorial Events

An exhibit recognizing the Tuskegee Airmen will be unveiled Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Pittsburgh International Airport. The memorial dedication is planned for Sunday in the Sewickley Cemetery.

3. Sewickley Fall Gallery Walk

The 2014 Fall Gallery Walk runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 throughout the business district. A dozen galleries are featured on the walk this year. 


4. Autumn Festival 

The Leetsdale Garden Club is having its annual Autumn Festival from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 in Henle Park. The festival is the garden club’s annual fall fundraiser, which raises money to support the club’s efforts as well as scholarship funds.

5. Annual Riding and Driving Party

Rain or shine, the Annual Riding and Driving Party begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Sewickley Heights History Center. The benefit features antique vehicles, horses and carriages, combined with cocktails, dinner, and a band. Equestrian exhibitions include a traditional display of jumping and dressage and a mock hunt provided by the Sewickley Hunt and Hounds. Donation is$100 per person. Call 412-741-4487 or email staff@sewickleyheightshistory.org
